511.org Website Optimization
Overview
511.org is a non-profit website that organizes and collects traffic information and resources in the San Francisco Bay Area. In this project, I first did some research of the existing website. Then, I went through a series of user testing to explore some deficiencies that still need to be improved. Finally, I proposed a solution and redesign several screens.
Current Design Issues & Analysis
1. Text-heaviness. There is too much unnecessary and repetitive information on the page.
2. Messy visual hierarchy. Important information is often lost in chunks of text.
3. Misuse of icons and terms forces users spend more time finding the information they need the most.
Redesign
My Strategy
1. Remove the repeated information.
2. In order to save users' attention for the key information, reduce the visual intensity and proportion of the secondary information, and combine it with the images as much as possible to increase readability.
